My Journey to Puglia and La Dolce Vita
Puglia has been my home since 2010, and at this point, I feel more Pugliese than ‘Inglese’ (English)!
I created Puglian Pleasures out of a deep passion for this beautiful land—a place rich in history, culture, and deeply rooted traditions. My goal is to share the authentic experiences of Puglia with you, from its incredible food and wine to the warmth of its people and the charm of its landscapes.
Whether it’s a food & wine tour, an unexpected date with a Prince in his Castle, or planning your next dream holiday to Puglia, feel free to get in-touch and start planning your Puglian Pleasures adventure now!
So, How Did I End Up Here?
It’s a long story, but in short—I always knew I was destined to live somewhere warm, where the people are friendly, the food and wine are simple yet bursting with flavour, and, of course, where the sun shines (a luxury that my home country, the UK, often lacks!).
Born in Blackburn, NW England, I moved ‘Down South’ to Swindon at 15, then settled in Brampton, Cambridgeshire, before venturing across the pond to Atlanta, Georgia, for four amazing years. Eventually, I found my way back to Swindon before embracing a completely different pace of life in Puglia in 2010.
Why Puglia?
A question I get asked often! My answer? “Per la dolce vita!”
Life in Italy is about savouring the little moments—whether it’s enjoying a leisurely meal with friends, sipping a glass (or two) of Primitivo, or simply admiring the stunning landscapes, the coastline, and those mesmerising Puglian sunsets. The people, the traditions, the history—it all adds up to an irresistible way of life.
A Little More About Me (If You’re Still Interested!)
I earned my BSc Degree in Business and ICT from the Open University in 2012 and have worked in various industries, including Intel, Motorola, RWE NPower, British Aerospace, and the Royal Australian Air Force. My roles have ranged from PA and Systems Trainer to Project Manager. While living in the States, I even ran my own web design business.
Why I Love Sharing Puglia With You
There’s so much more to Pugliese culture than just pasta and days spent by the sea. Through this blog, I want to bring you closer to the real Puglia—its traditions, food, wine, and unique experiences that make this region so special.
I’d love for you to be part of the journey! Feel free to like, comment, and share your thoughts. And if there’s a particular topic you’d love me to cover, just get in touch.
Happy reading!

A fantastic evening with Valerie and the Prince of San Vito leading a fascinating tour of the castle. We were able to ask a MILLION questions, enjoy the drinks for an extended time, and leave feeling like we had a sneak peek into a life and home that is normally so private. My sister is already asking me which will be our next tour with Puglian Pleasures!

This tour was a great find and well worth the very modest fee. Valerie Rice at Puglian Pleasures deserves accolades for a unique visit to San Vito Dei Normanni. Fun!
Cheese and oil – and more cheese!

We had a wonderful time with Valerie watching local cheeses being made – and tasting them – as well as tasting local olive oil and enjoying an aperitivo. A really fun morning and a great way to learn a little about the area. Thank you so much.
